The Fountaine de Tourny is stunning any time of the day or evening. It is a recent addition to the Quebec City scene, installed in front of the Quebec Parliament buildings in 2007. It was a gift from Simons department stores to the city for its 400th anniversary.
But it’s not a new fountain. It was cast in 1855 and stood in the Allées de Tourny in downtown Bordeaux until 1960 when it was removed due to maintenance issues. It languished in storage until Peter Simons purchased it as a thank you to the people of Québec City in recognition of their support for his retail fashion business (first established in the Old City in 1840).
